The anchorage
The deepest, calmest bay on the coast — five minutes from the home berth.
The anchorage
Villefranche-sur-Mer
Villefranche is a drowned valley rather than a beach, which is why the water is so deep so close in and why it stays flat when everywhere else is working. The old town stacks up the hillside in ochre and terracotta, and from the water you see the whole amphitheatre at once.
It is the first stop on most Beaulieu mornings for the simple reason that you can be swimming twenty minutes after stepping aboard. Cruise ships anchor in the middle of the bay in season; the captain tucks in towards the Darse or under the citadel, where they are not.
The captain reads the morning and picks the side of the bay the wind is not on. If it is not right on the day, we go somewhere that is.

the bays either side
Tell us the day you are picturing and the crew will shape the route around it — this bay, the ones either side of it, lunch wherever the morning says it should be, and the run home timed for the light rather than the clock.
