Alpes-Maritimes
The old ramparts on one side, Billionaires’ Bay on the other, and the calmest water on the coast in between.
Antibes sits halfway between Nice and Cannes, which makes it the natural middle of a Riviera day. Port Vauban is the largest marina on the Mediterranean and the old town behind it is the best lunch within a hundred metres of any quay on this coast.
The reason to come by sea is the Cap. Round the headland and the water turns the colour of a swimming pool over the sandy patches off Plage de la Garoupe, and the coves under the Villa Eilenroc are quiet even in August.
From here the Lérins are twenty minutes west and Nice thirty minutes east, so an Antibes day can go either way and usually does both.
Quai des Milliardaires, Port Vauban. Boarding is at the pontoon rather than a desk, and the day starts the moment you step aboard.
