The cape south of Antibes is the coast at its most private: villa gardens of cypress and umbrella pine running down to pale rock, the Eilenroc estate on the point, and the sheltered curve on the east side that everybody calls the Baie des Milliardaires.
Round the headland the water changes colour over the sand off the Garoupe, and the coves under the villas stay calm even in August. It is twenty minutes from Antibes and the natural middle of any day that starts in Nice and means to end in Cannes.
The captain reads the morning and picks the side of the bay the wind is not on. If it is not right on the day, we go somewhere that is.
